10 Cute Hairstyles with Scrunchies

Summer’s here, and if I could only pick one hair accessory to wear all season — it would be scrunchies. Hands down.

Scrunchies aren’t just for tying up your hair, they’re also a fun fashion accessory. A bold print can instantly pull your whole look together. I love using different patterns to match my mood or outfit of the day — floral, pastel, checkered, bright and bold — there’s a scrunchie for every vibe.

That’s why we made our Liberty Fabric Scrunchie Collection. These scrunchies are made with premium Liberty fabric — soft, breathable, and super lightweight. They’re so comfortable to wear. No pulling, no creases, no damage.

And the best part? We make each pattern in three different sizes. Whether you have fine hair or thick, curly locks, there’s a perfect fit for you.

Cute Scrunchie Hairstyles for All Hair Types

1. Basic Scrunchie Ponytail

This is the easiest, go-to hairstyle — the one I do all the time. When I’m heading out, I’ll usually wear a scrunchie on my wrist. Then, whenever I want to keep my hair out of my face, I just grab it, wrap it around my hair twice, and boom — a ponytail. Fast, simple, but still super cute.

This look works best if you have thicker hair, since it gives the ponytail a nice full shape. If you have fine or thin hair, don’t worry — I’ve got a better trick for you coming up in style #2.

Want your ponytail to look extra full and bouncy? Curl your hair first. It makes a big difference.

2. Fuller Scrunchie Ponytail (for Full or Thin Hair)

If you have fine or thin hair — or you just want your ponytail to look fuller and more textured — you have to try this trick.

Start by splitting your hair into two sections: one with more hair, and one with less. Take the larger section and wrap your scrunchie around it twice to make a ponytail. Then, on the third wrap, add in the smaller section and tie them together.

This trick works wonders if you have less hair, because sometimes wrapping the scrunchie twice feels too loose, and three times is too tight. By adding the smaller section at the end, you get just the right fit — and your ponytail looks way fuller, without the scrunchie slipping out.

3. Scrunchie High Half Ponytail

If you’re going for a soft, romantic vibe — this high half ponytail is perfect. It’s cute, stylish, and makes you look instantly more put-together. I especially love this look for summer dates or brunch with friends.

Start by taking a section of hair from both sides of your head, near the top. Tie it into a ponytail using a skinny-size scrunchie — this keeps it secure and neat. Then, to add extra volume and drama, layer a large scrunchie right over the same ponytail.

That second scrunchie gives it more lift and makes the whole look feel fuller and more playful.

4. Scrunchie Side Braid

A side braid is my go-to summer vacation hairstyle. It’s perfect for a beachy look — whether you’re wearing a straw hat, a cute scarf, or just letting the braid speak for itself.

Here’s a little trick I use to make my side braid stay neat all day (and look extra pretty): Start by grabbing some hair from both sides of your head and tie it into a small side ponytail. Then, flip that ponytail upward and tuck it through the top to create a little twist. You’ll notice a small “hole” forms — now take a small piece of hair from each side of your head, and pull them through that hole too.

This locks the sides in place and keeps the style secure. Once that’s done, pull all your hair to one side and braid it loosely. Finish it off with a scrunchie at the end — either to secure it or just to add a cute pop of color.

The best part? This side braid holds up all day — even in the wind or at the beach.

5. Messy Bun

If it’s a yoga day for me, I almost always go for a messy bun. It’s relaxed, comfy, and gives off that effortless, casual vibe. Plus, it keeps your hair out of the way and helps you feel fresh while moving around. Perfect with a hoodie, a simple tee, or your favorite workout set.

Here’s how I do it: Start by placing your scrunchie on your left wrist. Gather your hair into a ponytail with your right hand, then twist the hair from the ends toward the base. Wrap it into a bun shape, hold it with your right hand, and use your left hand to pull the scrunchie over and secure the bun.

Once it’s in place, gently tug at a few small sections of the bun to loosen it — this gives it that messy, voluminous look we love. The whole thing takes under a minute, feels super comfy, and the scrunchie adds a cute, chill touch.

6. Sleek Bun

If you’re going for a more polished or formal look, a sleek bun with a scrunchie is the way to go. It’s simple, elegant, and works perfectly for meetings, dinners, or any day you want to look extra put-together.

Here’s how to do it: Decide where you want your bun to sit — low, mid, or high. Gather all your hair into a ponytail and hold it in place. Then start twisting the hair in one direction until it naturally wraps into a bun shape. Once it’s fully twisted and wrapped, secure it with a scrunchie.

For this style, I recommend using a skinny scrunchie — it gives a cleaner, neater look and keeps the bun tight without adding bulk.

7. Scrunchie Pigtails

Why use one scrunchie when you can use two? We love a good scrunchie pigtail moment — it’s fun, playful, and works for all hair types.

You can keep it simple by parting just the top section of your hair into two and tying mini pigtails. Or go all in and split all your hair into two sections for full pigtails. Either way, it’s a cute and easy style that brings instant charm.

Want to level it up? Try braided pigtails, or go for high pigtails to add extra energy to your look. There’s so much room to play — and two scrunchies means double the fun.

8. Space Bun

This one’s a total head-turner — space buns are fun, bold, and perfect for days when you’re going out and want your hair to do the talking.

Start by splitting your hair into two equal sections, left and right. Take the left section and tie it into a high ponytail, then twist it into a sleek bun (just like we did in #6). Do the exact same thing on the right side — and boom, space buns!

Want to make it even more fun? Use two different scrunchies to mix and match colors or prints. It adds a playful twist and makes your look stand out even more.

9. Scrunchies & Bubbles

This one’s a super fun hairstyle, especially if you have long hair!

It’s called a bubble ponytail, and it’s all about turning one simple ponytail into something playful and eye-catching.

Start by tying your hair into a regular ponytail. Then, take a few scrunchies and space them out along the length of the ponytail — one at the top, one in the middle, and one near the end (or more, depending on your hair length). After you place each scrunchie, gently tug at the hair in between to puff it out and create that “bubble” look.

Want to go even bolder? Use scrunchies in different colors or patterns to add some extra flair. The more mix-and-match, the more fun!

10. Scrunchies for Short Hair

Who says short hair can’t have fun too? Scrunchies aren’t just for long ponytails — they work so well with short styles too.

If your hair is bob-length or just long enough to tie, try a mini low ponytail or a half-up bun using a skinny scrunchie. It’s cute, easy, and keeps your hair out of your face. You can also do mini pigtails, a tiny top knot, or even just wear the scrunchie on your wrist as a playful accessory.

The key? Choose the right size — skinny or small scrunchies work best for short hair, and bold patterns can add a pop of personality to your whole look.

Short hair, big style.
